Oklahoma prepares to spend tax dollars on a massive gift for Trump

1 min read

Oklahoma is preparing to write a fat check to using funds intended to educate children. It seems likely these funds are instead going to support Donald Trump. Getting to this point took passage of a ridiculous bill, and rigorous enforcement of rules to make sure the money was routed to Trump.

As The Oklahoman reports, the state is preparing to follow through on a law that requires Christian Bibles in public classrooms and requires every teacher between grades 5 and 12 to incorporate the Bible into their lesson plans. Not only is this a horrific imposition of religion on public education, but the requirements for those Bibles were … peculiarly specific.

Bids opened Monday for a contract to supply the state Department of Education with 55,000 Bibles. According to the bid documents, vendors must meet certain specifications: Bibles must be the King James Version; must contain the Old and New Testaments; must include copies of the Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights; and must be bound in leather or leather-like material.

As it turns out, despite having thousands of versions of the Bible available, book distributors can‘t find a version that meets those requirements. But fear not! There happens to be one from a very special vendor.

… one Bible fits perfectly: Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the U.S.A. Bible, endorsed by former President Donald Trump and commonly referred to as the Trump Bible. They cost $60 each online, with Trump receiving fees for his endorsement.

The King James Bible has been in print since 1611. Editions are available for less than a tenth the price of the Trump-endorsed Bibles. But by tailoring the requirements so that only Trump-brand destruction of the First Amendment will do, Oklahoma can justify cutting a $3 million check that can go to only one place

God bless. And I mean that in absolutely the best southern way.
