Support the 2028 US Olympic team: Vote for Kamala to open the Los Angeles Games

The countdown to the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games has begun. And our diverse U.S. Olympic team deserves to have Madam President Kamala Harris open the games.

The countdown to the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games has begun. Second gentleman Doug Emhoff headed the U.S. delegation at the closing ceremony in Paris where, with a dramatic assist from Tom Cruise, the Olympic flag was handed over to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who will be the first Black female mayor ever to host the Games.

Bass told the entertainment website Deadline in an interview ahead of the closing ceremonies

“I am very excited about it and humbled by it. I hope that it sends a message to girls in general around the world, but especially Black girls in the United States. I mean, we’re on the verge of a Black female president. So, I think it’s just an exciting time. I’m always  interested in young people feeling as though that they can do anything.”

And that’s just another reason to elect Kamala Harris in November. That’s because the head of state traditionally declares the Olympic Games open and welcomes athletes, world leaders and visitors from around the globe to the host city. Our U.S. Olympic team reflects the real face of the nation and is growing ever more diverse, including dozens of LGBTQ+ athletes and athletes who are immigrants or the children of immigrants.

And if that isn’t enough, the United States will be co-hosting the finals of  FIFA World Cup soccer tournament in June-July 2026 with Canada and Mexico. It’s the first time the world's premier international football competition will be held in three countries. The host countries, including the U.S., are guaranteed a berth in the finals.

So the choice is clear. We need Kamala in the White House hosting the world’s two biggest sports events.

Here’s how Vice President Harris paid tribute to Team USA’ for their achievements in the Paris Games.

At her Saturday evening rally in Las Vegas, Harris reminded people that the last time she was in Las Vegas was to visit the U.S. men’s basketball team at their training camp. So she congratulated both the U.S. men’s basketball team and the women’s soccer team which earlier in the day had both won gold medals.

And here’s how that July visit went down,

At the Olympics,  Team USA’s star player Stephen Curry and  head coach Steve Kerr, both of the Golden State Warriors, endorsed Harris just days after she entered the race.

“Vice President Harris is primed to bring her energy to this campaign and hopefully she’s on the ticket winning the election but it’s a big deal to say the least," Curry said, via ESPN. "She represents the Bay Area. She’s been a big supporter of us, so, I want to give that energy right back to her.”

"Just excited knowing obviously we’re representing our country, this is a very monumental next couple months for our country and the direction that we’re headed. Hopefully, this is a great way to do our part and continue to unifying the country. Sports brings a lot of people together. For her in this moment, knowing what’s ahead, it’s all about positive energy and optimism knowing how divided our country is right now."

Not to be outdone, the players and coach of Team USA’s gold medal-winning women’s basketball team endorsed Harris.

CNN reported on the endorsement.

“We have been talking, especially with the social justice committee, finding a way to make sure that we can obviously back Kamala as much as we can. Because everything that we’ve been kind of working for this year … has been about voting rights, reproductive rights,” said Breanna Stewart, a power forward who plays her professional ball for the New York Liberty, on July 27.

“The things she stands for, we also stand for. So making sure that we can definitely stay united and continue to push the message of registering to vote, knowing where to vote and all the resources behind it.”

And here are WNBA star Diana Taurasi and women’s head coach Cheryl Reeve telling why they’re supporting Harris.

Taurasi said:

“What are you going to do for the people of America that need you? And I think there’s a big portion of us that see a lot of us in her and what she wants to do with our country, For me, that is one of the proudest and most amazing moments, so yeah, we’re going to back her and we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins and we go forward in this country in the right way.”

Meanwhile, soon-to-be first gentleman Emhoff was in Paris to support Team USA.

And he appeared next to French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife at the nail-biting women’s basketball final in which the U.S. edged France 67-66 at the buzzer.

As for what Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz can bring to the ticket in terms of Olympic endorsements, we just have to look back to his 2022 re-election campaign. Walz was endorsed by Phil Drobnick, who coached the U.S. men’s curling team to a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Games. Most of the members of the U.S. Olympic curling team are from Minnesota.

Just remember that the last time Los Angeles hosted the Olympics. President Ronald Reagan was there to open the 1984 Games.

But the thought of an 82-year-old President Donald Trump opening the 2028 Games is nightmarish. And there’s the equally revolting prospect of a President JD Vance taking Trump’s place.

Trump would have to watch the parade of athletes from Haiti, El Salvador and African nations that he once referred to as â€œsh-thole countries.” And then there would be all those athletes coming “from countries unknown, who don’t speak languages. … We have nobody that even speaks those languages.”

And could Trump after potentially selling Ukraine out end up inviting Russian President Vladimir Putin to the 2028 games because they get along so well.

Trump might even light the Olympic flame himself. After all he does have some experience.

But all you have to do is just look at what was on Trump’s mind during the Paris Olympics. Did he congratulate Team USA on its accomplishments? Nope.

In a Fox News interview, Trump said: “I thought that the opening ceremony was a disgrace.”

Trump was particularly agitated about the gold medal-winning Algerian female boxer Imane Khelif whom a banned Russian-led boxing federation falsely claimed was a male. It was another excuse for MAGA cultists to get hysterical about trans female athletes.

At his Friday night rally in Bozeman, Montana, Trump had nothing to say about Team USA. Instead, he ranted about the Algerian boxer.

“And I’d like to congratulate the young woman who transitioned from a man into a boxer. She won the gold medal. How about the beautiful Italian boxer. She got in there and she didn’t know what was going on. And she was a very good boxer against other women. She didn’t count on this. … It’s crazy what they’re doing … And she (Kamala Harris) wants men to play in women’s sports.”

Trump did actually praise one Olympic gold medal winner, only she was from New Zealand.

Now the host country does have the power to introduce new sports or restore former events to the Olympics. And so in 2028, flag football and squash have been approved as first-time additions in Los Angeles, while baseball, softball, lacrosse and cricket will return after various lengths of absence, Forbes reported.

And at least one Twitter user suggested some additional events for Los Angeles 2028 that might allow Trump to take home multiple gold medals.

But if the Trump-Vance ticket actually comes to power, they will have had more than three years to implement Project 2025, destroying democracy and imposing autocracy, before the opening of the Los Angeles Olympics.

Now we don’t want a modern-day version of the opening ceremonies of the 1936 Berlin Olympics. This video was narrated by Jesse Owens, who won four gold medals and in the process of doing so rebuked Hitler’s Aryan master race theory.

After Owens’ death in 1980, President Jimmy Carter said:

“Perhaps no athlete better symbolized the human struggle against tyranny, poverty and racial bigotry. His personal triumphs as a world-class athlete and record holder were the prelude to a career devoted to helping others. His work with young athletes, as an unofficial ambassador overseas, and a spokesman for freedom are a rich legacy to his fellow Americans.”

Let’s make sure that Madame President Kamala Harris is able to honor Owens’ legacy and opens the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
